At the last workshop we asked residents to note down some of their positive memories of the neighbourhood from when they were younger or when they moved in. We thought it would be nice to remind local people of the richness of the area in terms of it’s history by bringing alive some of those memories by temporarily chalking them on the street and pavement – reclaiming these spaces for the people who live there. Sharing these memories with other residents and those passing through the area will hopefully create an uplifting feeling and encourage people to think positively about the neighbourhood and their place within it. The hope is that these memories will also work as an unusual method of slowing down drivers as they see something unexpected on the road.
What are your memories and would you like to share them with us and see them ‘living’ again somehow?
This idea was inspired by the work of artists in Bristol described in this article you can read here.
